How Not to Cook

Don't ever ask my mom to make cookies.

Just kidding. She is actually a great cook. She was making vegan peanut butter cookies with a recipe she found online for a friend at her work, and they just didn't come out too well. It included just peanut butter, flour, sugar, oil and vanilla. It really need the eggs to bind them together. They fell apart so fast and the bottom burned real fast too. Too bad we doubled the batch, hoping they'd be really good.
On the plus side the Kid really liked the peanut butter batter. At least there weren't any eggs in it! hahaha!

Need Landscaping Anyone?

My Kid is looking for a new career. Over the weekend we went to a park and he decided he was going to go for a landscaping career. He spent the next half an hour picking weeds and putting them at the curb (where there was already a big pile of weeds) for the town to pick up.
This was after we figured out a new game for him while there weren't any other kids on the playground to keep him occupied. Simon Says. I would just give him things to do, like run to the far fence and back, and he'd do it. I ran out of things to tell him to do and he started weeding. Wish he'd listen that well at home!

Swim Saga Continues

It was a long emotional week. But we made it through. The Kid has his parents day yesterday and he was so excited to show us just what he has been doing all week.
Note the goggles hanging out of his mouth.
Eyes in the water!!
Back and forth.
Getting ready to jump in the big pool.

Look of total fear!

Swimming in the big pool.

And that was it. All they did. It was a total of about 10 min, but we have it on video and I can't wait until next week when they actually let go of his hands and let him swim. Some of the other kids in his class did, but I think they are closer to 5 than 4yrs old.

And the kicker....he favorite part of the day? Jumping off the block into the big pool! hahahahaha!! Didn't quite look like fun in the picture, did it?

He is actually excited to go back tomorrow. But he was more excited that I told him that he had a day off today! I think we are going to go to the beach after lunch. :)

Update on Swim Class

He loved it today.

I sware that freaking kid is going to make me go into labor!! When I picked him up he was so excited because the got to jump off the blocks into the big pool! Seriously.

And when I asked him in the car if he was happy that mommy made him go to class he said, and I quote "Yes, mommy, I was very very very happy. It was fun!" Sonofabitch. His teacher made him promise that he wouldn't give mommy a hard time tomorrow. She told me that she has seen way worse. I told her that she didn't see him at home. I literally had to force him to get dressed. He was sweating from all the screaming he was doing. Thank goodness no one called the cops. It sounded like I was torturing him in here.

So I am going to do McDs tomorrow before class with him all ready to go (and without daddy) maybe we can avoid the scene. Then we'll all (grandmother's included) go see him swim on Saturday. He is very excited to show us what he has done and I am so proud of him. And I am 95% sure he will still go next week. He even said that next week they are going to start using their arms.

Seriously, the Kid is killing me.

Thanks so much for your support! I needed it.

The Kid Isn't Going to Make It

I think tomorrow is going to be his last day of swim. Today he had a total melt down 1/2 an hour before we even left. He couldn't even finish his lunch. I told him he only has one more day (after today) and then mommy and daddy come watch him (they have a parent day every Saturday for a 1/2 hour) and then he is done and he DID IT! Trying to make it sound exciting. I didn't even tell him he was supposed to have another week. But I don't think he will make it. Hubby isn't home today and I know we would have fought over taking him or not. I really didn't want to...but I didn't want to back down either. I am still crying since I got in the car after dropping him off. That just killed me. Please tell me if I am doing the right thing for a (almost) 4 year old to make him finish the week - only one more day. And then I let him 'quit' but not really knowing it and not take him back next week. I am so afraid I am going to have a problem tomorrow if Hubby is here and if he acts like that again. I won't be able to get him there.

Basically I am asking if it would even be worth it for one more day (and then the parent day) or cut my losses after I pick him up today. The teachers say that he is fine during the class, even one of the other kids in class said he is doing great...I am guessing he is much closer to 5 yrs old than 4.

I truly believe that the main thing that sucks for him is that he can't touch the bottom yet. And he says they 'let him sink' and he is very upset about it. I did stick around and hid and watched for a bit yesterday and he seemed to be fine in the pool. He has even stuck his face in and kicked at the same time. And when I picked him up yesterday he was SO happy about that.

Am I pushing him too hard? I have never been a quitter. I was on the field hockey team in college and didn't enjoy it at all (loved it in HS), but I wouldn't quit. I just finished the season and didn't join back up the next year. I am hoping that is what I can instill in my kids. That even though things are tough, you make a commitment and you see it through. And when it's done, you are done and never have to do it again.

Sorry for the long-windedness. I am just venting. And the baby hormones and stressing over his birthday party and today just put me over the top. ugh.

Thanks for listening. And I am feeling much better now having gotten this out.
Please be truthful, but kind. :)

Book Tagged

Ice Cream Mama tagged me for a book meme. Whatever a meme is...

Here's what you do:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the 5th sentence
4. Post the next three sentences
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

The book nearest to me is "Boys Should be Boys - 7 Secrets to Raising Healthy Sons" by Meg Meeker M.D. I haven't even got this far in the book yet.

Page 123, 5th sentence ....

"The very qualities which cause men to be attracted to women can often become the very qualities which men come to hate later in life. And the reverse is true. Some women are attracted to men because they are hard-working and show great commitment to their work. Later on, those same women complain that their husbands are workaholics and never around."

Holy CRAP! That has been my life the last few months. Hubby has been working all day and some really really late nights. And when the he is home, he's not really 'home'. He is upstairs working to get our rooms ready for us to get up there before the baby comes! I totally love that he is willing to work such long hours and overtime and then come home to make our home perfect for us, but at the same time I hate that he isn't here for everything. WAIT! I though this was supposed to be a book about raising my boys, not analyzing ME!! hahahha

Tag 5 people. If you don't do these things, that's ok. You don't have too. I don't have that much a reader base anyway, so I am picking, at random.

1. Modern Matriarch (it'll give you something to do while you are waiting for the baby! heehee)
2. House of Misfits
3. My Little Corner of Life
4. Canadian Thoughts in Texas
5. Tranny

Beach Wednesday

Beautiful view of the inlet late afternoon last week. The Kid said he was a flip flop head. So I couldn't get a nice shot with the fishing boat and the sun beams through the clouds without the flip flop.
We may not make it to the beach this week due to the swim classes. They are just kicking his butt. I may go on my own one day while he is in class. I haven't been on the beach alone in years!
