The Kid had his first day of swim class yesterday. He goes to a good school with a very good reputation and it has been there since 1960 run and owned by the same family. My mom even went there when she was a kid.
Yesterday he was a little nervous and when I dropped him off he was quiet and when I picked him up he had a puss on his face and hugged me like he'd never see me again. And he was stuck to me like glue for the rest of the afternoon. He told me that they 'let me sink'. What I think happened is they were holding him in the pool and they let him go to see if he could touch the bottom. He couldn't. He went under for a second and he didn't like that too much. He was telling me all yesterday and this morning that he wanted to quit. I told him that we do not quit something after one day and that he has to go again. He wasn't happy about it, but he said ok.
Today I dropped him off and he CRIED! Just like he did for the first few days of nursery school last year. The swim teacher had to peel him off me, just like his nursery school teacher did. And he LOVED going to nursery school after a while. I felt SO bad and I couldn't stop thinking of him the whole 3 hours he was there. But I wouldn't back down. Hubby is a push over. If it were up to him the Kid wouldn't have even went back today. And if he was there to drop the Kid off he never would have left him crying. But you guys (as moms) know that you can not be manipulated by the kids! Head up. Walk away. And the Kid had a great time today.
So I went to pick him up and he finally had a smile on his face. He told me that he had his face in the water and was kicking at the same time! He was very excited about that. And he told his teacher that he'd see her tomorrow.
So far so good! On Saturday we can go and see the progress and then he has another week to go. I'll post some pictures of class then.

my daughter just finished swim school at the place you are talking about (i am in your area - a bit north). i was terrified, but she LOVED it. it was such a wonderful experience - granted she still doesn't swim, but i do feel comfy with having her in the baby pool and not being on top of her, as I have my younger one to hoover over. going on saturday was SUPER fun. we also ate at circus after....
I need to take Charlotte there - she is a water rat!
Glad he had a good day today. It's so hard when they cling and cry isn't it? But hey you did the right thing and now look, he loves it, just like you knew he would.
Good for you for sticking to your guns! Way to go, mama!
That was not easy, I know. Good for you!
3 hours? 3 hour swim lessons for littles? That's crazy though! How many kids in the class?
I know how difficult it is to leave, but good for you for sticking to your guns. And yes, men are the weaker gender.
